We are new residents in the City of Reno, have small children and want to know how to get information on Registered Sex Offenders currently in The City? A. The amount of Registered Sex Offenders in the City of Reno will change periodically. The individuals who are Registered Sex Offenders have a requirement imposed by the State of Texas to register with the Law Enforcement Agency of the area where they intend to reside, within 7 days of residency. The Law Enforcement Agency ( which in your case is the Reno Police Department ), will then have documents filled out and a picture taken of the Offender. Once all the registration is completed, the paperwork is forwarded to the Texas Department of Public Safety, who then posts the data on their State Wide Web Site ( www.txdps.state.tx.us ). The Reno Police Dept will then send letters to all local School Districts in and surrounding the City of Reno, as well as any Private Schools either in our city or on our boundaries. This information is usually passed on to the parents of the children who attend the schools by the School Administrator. Q. How do we, as citizens know if the Registered Sex Offender is still living in the City? A. This is also on the D.P.S. Web-Site. Registered Sex Offenders, as part of their parole requirement Must Register with the Local Law Enforcement Agency wherever they live. If they move out of the City and into the County, then they would register with the County Sheriff’s Dept. Q. How long do they have to be Registered? A. It varies, depending on what the conviction was
for. If probation was given, they have to register right away for at
least 10 years, sometimes more. If you have other concerns, contact the Police Department at 903-785-1744 |
